Desert Falcons Water Training Report: August 3rd, 2024

Early Birds on Deira Creek

On August 3rd, 2024, the Desert Falcons dragon boat team gathered at the picturesque QD's - Deira Creek for their early morning water training session. The morning began before sunrise, with members arriving at 5:15am to load the boats, setting the stage for a productive and invigorating training session.

Team Lineup and Coaching

From the moment we started at 5:30 am, it was all about teamwork and synchronization. Under Gob's expert steering, the team focused on refining their strokes, improving timing, and building endurance. The rhythm of the paddles hitting the water and the encouraging shouts from the team created an invigorating atmosphere.

Our rising stars, Khaled, Mahmoud, Aby, Nafih, Sanju, and Ruby, showed remarkable progress, keeping up with the pace set by our experienced paddlers. Phelan, our newest member, demonstrated great potential, quickly adapting to the techniques and fitting in seamlessly with the team.

Intan, Is, and Manny were on standby, ready to jump in if needed. Their support and readiness underscored the team's collective commitment to improvement and success.

The Training Session

The training commenced promptly at 5:30am, with the tranquil waters of Deira Creek providing the perfect backdrop. The session kicked off with a warm-up paddle, allowing the team to acclimate to the water and synchronize their strokes.

The coaches led a series of focused drills, including:

  • Paddling Techniques: Emphasis on perfecting the stroke, ensuring each paddle enters and exits the water smoothly.
  • Synchronization Drills: Enhancing the team's ability to paddle in unison, which is crucial for maintaining speed and stability.
  • Strength and Endurance Exercises: Designed to build the physical stamina needed for competitive racing.

Coach Ben provided continuous feedback, helping paddlers refine their techniques, while Lambert and Gob focused on steering and ensuring the boat stayed on course.

Building Camaraderie

One of the highlights of the training was the palpable sense of camaraderie among the team. The mix of veteran paddlers and newbies created an environment of mutual support and encouragement. Phelan, our newest member, received plenty of guidance and tips from the more experienced paddlers, which helped him quickly adapt to the rigors of dragon boating.

Conclusion

As the session drew to a close, the Desert Falcons reflected on their progress and the improvements made during the training. With each paddle stroke, the team not only honed their physical skills but also strengthened their bond as a cohesive unit ready to tackle upcoming races.

The early start and the hard work put in by each member highlighted the dedication and passion that define the Desert Falcons. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of this dynamic team.

Stay tuned for more updates on our training sessions, upcoming races, and team events. Until then, keep paddling!
