Desert Falcons Water Training Report - 10th August 2024

On the morning of August 10th, the Desert Falcons gathered for an invigorating water training session at the serene Deira Creek. With the sun still tucked behind the horizon, the team assembled at QD's, brimming with enthusiasm despite the early hour. The call time was 5:15 AM, and by 5:30 AM, everyone was ready, loading up the boat and preparing for an intense yet rewarding workout.

Training Overview

The training kicked off at 5:45 AM, with Intan steering the boat during the first half and Yti taking over for the second half. The lineup was a perfect mix of experience and rising stars, ensuring a balanced and dynamic paddling session. On the left side of the boat, Tonette, Khaled, Intan, Ben, Nheil, Lambert, Rishi, Aby, and Ferdz powered through the water with precision. On the right, Evie, JJ, Mahmoud, Bols, Manny, Ruby, Nafih, Sanju, IS, and Jobai matched their pace, creating a rhythmic and coordinated paddling effort that propelled the boat smoothly across the creek.

The team worked on perfecting their timing and technique, focusing on building endurance and strength. One of the key focuses of this session was Fixing Individual Strokes. Throughout the practice, the coaches and steerer paid close attention to each paddler's stroke, providing real-time feedback and adjustments. This personalized attention ensured that everyone was paddling efficiently, with the correct technique to maximize their power and minimize strain. These adjustments, although subtle, had a significant impact on the overall performance of the boat, leading to smoother and more synchronized paddling.

The energy on the boat was palpable, with each paddler pushing themselves to maintain the rhythm and keep the boat moving efficiently. The switch in steerers halfway through the session provided a fresh perspective and allowed the team to adapt to different styles, further honing their skills.

Post-Training Potluck

After the training concluded at 8:00 AM, the team gathered for a much-anticipated potluck breakfast. The spread was as diverse as the team itself, featuring a delightful mix of flavors and cultures. Khaled treated everyone to Jordanian sweets, adding a touch of Middle Eastern sweetness to the morning. Lamberto brought Filipino bananas, offering a taste of the tropics, while Intan delighted the team with her unique fried spaghetti ala Malaysia, a dish that quickly became a favorite.

Evie brought along a pot of rich, aromatic karak tea that added warmth and comfort to the potluck after a refreshing morning on the water. Jobai’s contribution of boiled eggs was simple yet perfect, especially when paired with Ferdz’s freshly baked bread from Rigga. JJ, ever the thoughtful one, provided Chinese plates and cups, ensuring the potluck was as organized as it was delicious.

The potluck was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of the team’s hard work and camaraderie. As they sat together, sharing food and laughter, the bond between the Desert Falcons grew even stronger, reinforcing the spirit of unity that drives the team both on and off the water.

Final Thoughts

This training session was a testament to the dedication and passion that define the Desert Falcons. The combination of rigorous paddling, individual stroke refinement, and a warm, communal breakfast highlighted the perfect balance of hard work and fellowship that makes this team so special. As the sun finally rose over Deira Creek, the Desert Falcons left the water, not just as a team, but as a family, ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming races.
